Simple Past and Present Perfect



  1. Simple Past

Ela viveu aqui - She has lived here

Eles voltaram - They have gone back

Larissa leu aquele livro - Larissa has read that book

Fernanda leu aquele livro ontem à noite - Fernanda read that book last night

* Note the simplicity in interrogative form:

Ela viveu aqui? - Has she lived here?

Eles voltaram? - Have they gone back?



      Already (Já)

Roberta datilografou a carta - Roberta has already typed the letter



      Already + Present Perfect (Já + Presente Perfeito)

Você datilografou isso? - Have you already type it?

Não, ainda não - No, not yet.

Não, ainda não datilografei isso. - No, I haven't typed it yet.



  1. Present Perfect (Presente Perfeito)

Marcela tem ficado sempre aqui. - Marcela has always stayed here.

Eles têm trabalhado muito ultimamente. - They have worked hard lately.

Você já esteve na Romênia? - Have you ever been in Romania?

Fábio morou aqui por três anos. - Fábio has lived here for three years.

Ele está aqui desde 5 de Maio. - He has been here since May 5th .

O,a,os,as - means “the”. You'll use O to masculine form, OS plural masculine form, A to feminine form, AS plural feminine form.

Menino - boy

Médico - doctor (male)

Professor - teacher (male)

Assassino - Murder (male)

Está - is

Alegre - happy

Triste - sad

Doente - sick

Chorando - crying



  1. É, Está

Well, this a trick in Portuguese. When you say “Joseph is sad”, you said that Joseph is sad . That's all. In Portuguese this simple phrase have a little difference...

In first case, I said that Joseph is sad now. In second, I said that Joseph is always sad. Note:

This trick make a giant difference in Portuguese language! So, be smart with this trick.
