When Portugal cames to our country (1500 dc), they found a lot of primitive languages from natives, like Tupi-Guarani, Tchucarramãe, etc. So, our language is a “mix” of ancient languages and original Portuguese language. Of course, we can understand others different portuguese languages (in this case, the original Portuguese, spoked in Portugal), but some words,expressions and slangs are totally different. So, I'll just explain the Brazilian Portuguese, because I'm not a “original Portuguese” citizen. Well, let's go... I hope carachters can appears correctly (they will...) Alphabet (Alfabeto)
All letters are exactly pronounced in words like in English, except below:
Á á - it sounds like in english “tall”, i.e, an open “a”
à ã - it sounds like in english “pan”, i.e., a style of nasal “a”
 â - it sounds like in english name “Pamela”, i.e, a nasal “a”
À à - it sounds like “aa”, like in german “aalglatt”
É é - it sounds like in “bell”, i.e, an open “e”
Ê ê - it sounds like in “pearl”, i.e, a nasal “e”
Ó ó - it sounds like in “ball” or “corn”, i.e., an open “o”
Ô ô - it sounds like in “bowl”, i.e, a nasal “o”
Ç ç - it sounds “ss”, like in “mass”. You must note than this letter never can starts a word!
Ü ü - no equivalence in English; I will explain this letter in advanced lessons...
The letters K, W and Y are used just for names or other languages words/names. The “s”, when between vogals, is pronounced as “z”, like in english “amazing”.
